Burners, Inc. began as a division of a small independent propane gas company. Our founder, Frederick (Bill) Mayo, recognized a need for obtaining high volumes of continuous heat at road repair and roofing job sites. Having been involved with LP Gas since the 1940’s, Mr. Mayo was considered a leader in his field and was involved in the formation of technical standards for the LP gas industry. He designed many of the products that Burners, Inc. manufacturers today.
In 1963, Burners, Inc. was created to produce and distribute various types of liquid propane burners and torches. During the first year of its existence, Burners, Inc. Shared a facility with the propane company, but soon found it necessary to relocate to a separate building. The operation moved to the corner of West Davison and Artesian in Detroit, Michigan in 1964. Additional space was added in the mid-1970’s when the Company purchased an adjacent building on the south side of the original building. The Detroit operation was closed in 1998 when Burners, Inc. moved to Milford Township. After ten years at a location on McCarthy Drive, the Company moved into a larger facility on Childs Lake Road in the fall of 2008 in order to accommodate the expansion of our custom fabrication department.
Although there have been four ownership changes in the past 40 years, the one person who has been involved with Burners, Inc. since the beginning is our C.E.O., Mike Bockelman. As a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Michigan Propane Gas Association, he has been instrumental in the development of many new products and he remains dedicated to the continued growth of the Company. Burners, Inc. became a “family business” when Mike’s sons, Scott & Robert, joined the business in the mid-1990's.
Hot gas generators for thermal testing, standard and custom-designed control systems, torches, burners, salamanders and new uniframe cylinder lockers, along with our new ergonomically designed torch are part of our growing list of products. We are especially proud of our Ply-Rite line of roofing equipment. Although our target markets are still the roofing, road repair and propane industries, Burners, Inc. products have been used in countless other industrial and commercial applications. We continually strive to offer our customers the best equipment on the market. Quality products and reliable service have given Burners, Inc. a reputation in which we can all take pride. We rely on innovative, dedicated employees to continue that tradition and to bring the Company to new levels of growth in the twenty-first century.
